good blog....not possible for me to agree more with everything you said.
keep condra and weircioch
deport greening to the (frank)ing moon for all i care.
leave stewart where he is, makes a divisional rival worse
i'm indifferent on lecavalier (depends on what we give up, and how much salary philly keeps)
legwand would be nice
i REALLY want the sens to take a chance on mueller |

In fairness, this is a Garrioch column. Probably desperate for something to write about. I'll rely on Mackenzie and Lebrun for the inside information. Take a few deep breaths Travis. I did. It made me feel better. Have a great 4th of July. Let's hope that a$$ grabbing does not go on in your neck of the woods. |

As teams continue to hire analytics staff people, I'd love to know if Ottawa has one or is planning to have one in place.
Even if you go by the 'eye test', PW46 is a good player on this Sens team. Add in the analytics and it's a slam dunk to keep him. Or at least package him for something decent
Surely teams around the league have looked at his underlying numbers and see value there if bloggers have done the same
Ugh

Stop with the a$$ grabbing, that was a hoax, (wishing so).
We need to hand Lecavalier a thank u check, and send him home, he's getting slower by the day, despite his wicked one timer.
Legwand would be a nice move if Turris can ramp up his scoring a little. |

You don't even need the underlying numbers. That's what's scary. I mean:
56% - on-ice goal percentage (23rd)
0.96 - points per sixty (21st)
12 - individual shot generation per 60 (14th)
to say nothing of his territorial dominance.
there's more evidence he's first-pairing talent than healthy scratch talent at this point. it's mind-blowing.

... only five (!) defenders have posted better Corsi% and points-per-60 than Patrick Wiercioch. Three of those five are Zdeno Chara, Erik Karlsson, and Brendan Smith.
err... five, or three? |

i'd do that in a second. versteeg makes less, signed shorter term, and is a better player.....sign me up |

"Three of those five".
The other two fwiw are Dougie Hamilton and Torey Krug. Probably some QualTeammate stuff in there obviously but ... again, four NHL defenders, comfortably. Two of which are Norris winners, the third is very good. |

Around the same pricetag but Versteeg chips in a little more. But I would do that, Or you could give up Kruger instead.

he must have did something to have a falling out with Mac. I cannot see why a smart coach would do the oulandish things he did last season unless he was proving a point to someone.

Let's gove Murray a few days here to find us a Center to replace Spezza - in one Calendar year he has lost his two Captains, something is going to happen in the next 72 hours and the team will have another element in place.
I'm not a Murray fan but at least let's give him a few days to sort out what has been the worst 365 days of the Senators modern history.
If he can land us a 3rd/2nd line center and retain most of our assets we'll be okay - a Legwand, Matt Read, would be good - an Evander Kane would be even better - you even hear names like Huberdeau, E. Staal out there and that would be amazing if Murray could make an ad at Center like that.
I'm not holding my breath but I think with Murray's resume he deserves until Sunday before we start to panic.
I don't like the fact that he says he has a trade in the works - it puts him in a position to either 1. make the deal because he said he would 2. explain why the deal wasn't made (which Murray is great at) but it makes him and the team look weak and ocnfused if the right deal doesn't happen |

He was bad in October (like everyone else), but it's worth noting.
Beyond that, I'm at a loss. Team's second-best defender at times. Healthy scratched fairly regularly. |

Wiercoch is not better than cowen, gryba or ceci,so he goes .Him And EK in our top 4 would give us the softest top 4 in the league, puck posession and points arent everything here .Cowen,s physical presence is worth far more to the overall makeup as a unit than weircoch. |

I still cannot see what from SJS we would be after with Havlat and Boyle being cut loose. The only other two players I can see are Burns or Marleau but even that does not make sense unless we get Burns to be our PWF instead of Stewart lol. Except Burns from I thought wanted to go back on Def.

Good post. Analytics attempts to quantify what many scouts insist they can see or intuit in their evaluation models. But, I just realized that analytics is a tool of fans as well. In the past when a team wanted to move a player they would prepare the fans by having a media friend write things like the "seldom used" Wiercioche. As I was reading Garrioch early this morning I am thinking to myself this kind of message is not going to fly well with the faithful.

I like Foligno. One of Buffalo's better players last year. |
